FIBA Women's Basketball World CupAbout the Tournament
The FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup is the premier global championship for women's national basketball teams, organized by FIBA, basketball's international governing body.
First held in Chile in 1953, the tournament brings together national teams from around the world to compete for the world championship. The 2026 edition takes place in Berlin, Germany from September 4–13 and expands the field from 12 teams in 2022 to 16 teams.
The 16 teams are divided into four groups of four for the opening round. Each group winner advances directly to the Quarter-Finals, while the second- and third-place teams play a single-elimination Qualification to Quarter-Finals round for the remaining spots. From the Quarter-Finals onward, the tournament is single elimination, culminating in the championship game and a Third Place Game.
