WTA TourAbout the League
The Women's Tennis Association (WTA) is the principal organizing body for women's professional tennis. Founded in 1973, the WTA Tour consists of tournaments played around the world throughout the year, with players competing in singles and doubles.
WTA Tour events are organized into several levels, including WTA 250, WTA 500 and WTA 1000 tournaments, with higher-level events generally offering more ranking points and prize money. The four Grand Slam tournaments — the Australian Open, Roland-Garros, Wimbledon and the US Open — are not operated by the WTA, but their results count toward the WTA rankings and they award the most ranking points.
The WTA rankings use results from a rolling 52-week period and help determine tournament entry and seeding. Players also earn points throughout the season in the Race to the WTA Finals, with the leading singles players and doubles teams qualifying for the season-ending WTA Finals.
